Commissioner of the Year Award

Description & Criteria

Started in 1998, the Commissioner of the Year award is an award that recognizes a Clan Campbell Society (North America) Commissioner who has exhibited extraordinary service to "put Clan Campbell on the map". This award is not necessarily presented every year, but as warranted, by the achievements of an individual. The individual under consideration must be a member in good standing of the Clan Campbell Society (North America) as defined by the Society's Bylaws. To qualify for the award, the Society Commissioner's dedication should promote the Clan Campbell and the Clan Campbell Society (North America) in two or more of the following ways:

1. Served the Clan Campbell Society (North America) for at least three (3) years.

2. Sponsorship of a Clan Campbell Society (North America) tent or the hosting of multiple Clan Campbell Society (North America) tents at Highland Games each year, thereby honoring the Clan Campbell and promoting membership in the Clan Campbell Society (North America).

3. Authorship of a published work, or body of works, on Clan Campbell history or genealogy that promotes and preserves our Campbell heritage.

4. Special support for Highland Games, Clan Gatherings, Reunions, other Scottish Societies or events representing the Clan Campbell or the Clan Campbell Society (North America).

5. Developing and launching new programs to benefit the Clan Campbell Society (North America) membership and our Clan Campbell kinsmen.

A "Commissioner" is defined as: a Region Commissioner, A Region Deputy Commissioner, a State Commissioner, a State Deputy Commissioner, a Convener, or any "Commissioner" as identified in the Bylaws of the Clan Campbell Society (North America).

Receipt of this award does not disqualify an individual from any other current or future awards or recognitions from the Clan Campbell or the Clan Campbell Society (North America).

Nominations for the Commissioner of the Year award shall be submitted, in writing, no less than 60 days prior to the scheduled AGM (Annual General Meeting), to and selected by the Vice-President of the Clan Campbell Society (North America).

The Commissioner of the Year award shall be presented by the Society Vice-President, on behalf of the Society, and our kinsmen, at the Annual General Meeting of the Clan Campbell Society (North America).

The award shall be an engraved silver bowl (which the recipient shall hold for one year and then return to the Society), and engraved plaque or a framed certificate, and an engraved wearable insignia of the Commissioner of the Year award, all commensurate with the nature of the award. The recipient shall also have the privilege of wearing the Commissioner of the Year medallion for one year. The Vice-President shall ensure that the awards are properly prepared and available in time for the presentation at the Annual General Meeting of the Clan Campbell Society (North America).
