James or “Jim” as he was known to friends and family alike, was born in Minneapolis MN on January 15 1914. As an adult, he earned the rank of United states Air Force Colonel having served earlier as a first Lieutenant on Army Reserve active duty.

He was transferred to the new Army Air Corps during the Second World War period. He became a logistics officer and squadron executive on bases in Washington state and in Hawaii.

Trustee Emeritus Williams remained in the US Air Force, having left active duty as a Lieutenant Colonel. He was promoted to the rank of Colonel in 1950.

He moved to Des Moines, IA in late 1949 where he was in line for a promotion with Signoid Steel Strapping Corp.

Active in numerous organizations, Colonel Williams was involved with the local Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, the Des Planes Lions Club, and according to the local newspaper, “the Clan Campbell Society of North America where he studied genealogy.”

The Des Planes Chamber of Commerce recognized him in 1975 for his many contributions. He was awarded their prestigious 1st annual Community Involvement Award.
